On Friday 17th February, 2017, local music practitioners will be given the opportunity to learn from Calypso Rose as she shares her knowledge, experiences and the journey that led her to become Trinidad and Tobago’s first gold album (France) artist. This Business of Calypso Workshop will be held free of charge at the National Academy for the Performing Arts at 9:00 a.m. Workshop participants will be exposed to several topics including the story and history of Calypso Rose, the essentials of composing a calypso, calypso music production and music business, finance and marketing.
Jeanelle Frontin, General Manager of MusicTT explains, “Calypso Rose has catapulted our indigenous art form, calypso music, to achieve unprecedented success across Europe. As one of our music industry’s pioneers, Rose is a fountain of information and has invaluable career advice that can benefit both established and aspiring artists, and music practitioners. Due to her success with MusicTT’s first Open Call for Proposals, our micro-investment and sponsorship initiative, Calypso Rose agreed to give back by being a part of a workshop and sharing her knowledge.”
The Business of Calypso Workshop is fully supported by the Ministry of Trade and Industry who sees the value that this initiative brings to the growth and development of the local music industry. MusicTT has also partnered with the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organization (TUCO), members of which will be participating in several panel discussions that comprise the workshop’s agenda. Guardian Media Limited is the official media partner of this workshop.
Frontin added, “The Business of Calypso Workshop is open to anyone interested in this genre, from students to music industry practitioners to established calypsonians to fans of Calypso Rose. This is an invaluable opportunity and I encourage our stakeholders to register early as spaces are very limited.”
Persons interested in attending can register at www.musictt.co.tt/elevate and visit MusicTT’s website and social media sites for more information.
